Terms and Conditions of Use

Please note that these Terms and Conditions of Use may be amended from time to time, so please ensure that you check them each time you use our site.

1. Definitions

In the context of these Terms and Conditions of Use, the following words shall have the following meanings:
"King’s" means King’s College London, a university with charitable status, established under royal charter and having its registered office at Strand, London WC2R 2LS, United Kingdom;
“Website” means the pages of information, data, text, images, graphics, hyperlinks or computer code published on, or available via the world wide web, which are under the ownership or control of King’s and from which a hyperlink has been created to these terms and conditions;
"User" means any individual, company or organisation accessing the Website.

2. Applicable terms and conditions

This Website is owned by King’s and any uses made of the Website (including any registrations and transactions entered into via the Website), are subject to these terms and conditions. King’s may, at its sole discretion, modify or revise these terms and conditions at any time by updating the text of this page. King’s staff and students must read these terms and conditions in conjunction with Academic Regulations, Regulations Concerning Students & General Regulations. Appendix b: Regulations for the use of Information Technology (IT) facilities & services throughout the College.

3. Privacy and Data Protection

Information may be collected about Users on the Website for various purposes. To find out more about this collection process, and how the information is used, please consult our Privacy Statement.

4. Copyright and trademarks

4.1 Copyright in the contents of the Website is owned by King’s or by its content suppliers. You may download to a local storage medium and print extracts from our Website without alteration, for your own personal use. You may also recopy downloaded extracts to others provided you do not do so for profit.

4.2 Reproduction of part or all of the contents of the Website in any form is prohibited unless for personal use. None of the content of this Website may be copied or otherwise incorporated into or stored in any other website, electronic retrieval system, publication or other work in any form (whether hard copy, electronic or other) without our prior written permission (or, where applicable, with the permission of the respective copyright owner(s)). Requests for permission should be addressed to Web and Portal Services.

4.3 The names and logos of King’s (and any content providers) and all related product and service names, designs marks and slogans are the trade names, service marks or trade marks of King’s (or the respective owner(s)) and may not be used without the express prior permission of King’s (or the respective owner(s)). Requests for permission should be addressed to Web and Portal Services.

4.4 For the avoidance of doubt, framing of this site or any part of it is not permitted without express permission. Notwithstanding this prohibition, the caching of this site is permitted by an information service provider acting in the normal course of its business as provided for in the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002. Requests for permission should be addressed to Web and Portal Services.

4.5 All works in the nature of databases attract database rights.

5. Chat rooms, bulletin boards and newsgroups

5.1 Users must not publish, post, upload, distribute or disseminate any defamatory, inappropriate, profane, hateful, obscene, indecent or unlawful topic, name, material or information (or material that infringes the rights of others) on this Website.

5.2 King’s does not monitor the individual submissions posted onto the Website by Users, but will respond as quickly as possible to any complaints received from Users who object to the nature of such content. Where such complaints are found to be justified, King’s reserves the right to use, disclose or remove any information or materials without compensation.

5.3 If you wish to complain about any content appearing on the website please contact Web and Portal Services.

6. Viruses

Whilst King’s makes all reasonable attempts to exclude viruses from the Website it cannot ensure such exclusion and no liability is accepted for damage caused through the downloading of viruses. Therefore, you are recommended to take all appropriate safeguards before downloading information from the Website.

7. Online Transactions

7.1 King’s reserves the right to vary fees and the prices of any goods or services listed without notice. All registrations and orders for goods or services are subject to availability and King’s reserves the right to refuse to accept any registration and to refuse to supply any goods or services to any individual.

8. Cancellation/refunds

The university reserves the right to cancel any offer(s) made by the institution. In the event of cancellation by King’s College London, we will refund any costs in full but will not reimburse any expenses incurred by you.

Cancellation by you

If you cancel any services or orders refunds may be subject to a 10% administration charge.

Refunds
All refunds will be paid to your credit/debit card if it was originally paid in this way. If method of payment was by cash or cheque, your refund will be by cheque. Please be aware that this may take up to four weeks.

Please check for any specific refund arrangements at point of sale.

9. Blog and wiki disclaimer

The content of any blogs and wikis on the King’s College London website does not reflect the views of King’s. Such content only reflects the views and comments of those named persons posting individual blogs and wikis.

The person posting information on these blogs and wikis has, as a condition of publication, agreed to indemnify King’s against any and all liability at law for the material contained therein.

King’s operates a ‘notice and takedown’ procedure for defamatory content. Please notify the Web Team of any such content. Please contact Web and Portal Services of any such content. Once notified King’s will endeavour to remove the defamatory content within a reasonable time. For more information on the regulations governing the use of the communications infrastructure please refer to the Information Services & Systems regulations (pdf, 64KB).

10. Encryption

Although the Website uses encryption security software in areas where online payment details are accepted, the security of information and payments transmitted via the Internet cannot be guaranteed. Any loss incurred or sustained by any User who transmits information by means of e-mail or other Internet links shall be borne solely and exclusively by such User and in no event shall any such loss in whole or part be borne by King’s or its agents.

11. General disclaimer

11.1 This Website is intended to provide general information only and, as such, should not be considered as a substitute for advice covering any specific situation. Users should seek appropriate advice before taking or refraining from taking any action in reliance on any information contained in any part of this Website.

11.2 Whilst King’s has taken every precaution in compiling this site neither it nor any contributors make any warranties, representations or undertakings relating to any of the content of this Website (including, without limitation, any as to the quality, accuracy, completeness or fitness for any particular purpose of such content), or any content of any other website referred to or accessed by hypertext link through this Website (“third party site”).

11.3 King’s does not endorse or approve the content of any third party site, nor will King’s have any liability in connection with any of them (including, but not limited to, liability arising out of any allegation that the content of any third party site infringed any law or the rights of any person or entity). Links to third party sites are provided for the User’s convenience only and the User is solely responsible for evaluating the accuracy and completeness of any information contained on third party sites and also the value and integrity of any goods and services offered by them.

11.4 Except as required by law, King’s shall not be liable for any losses or damages whatsoever, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise arising from reliance on information contained in this Website, or from any interruption or delay in access to the Website for whatever reason.

12. User warranty and indemnity

12.1 The User warrants to King’s that they will abide by these Terms and Conditions of Use and not use the Website, its contents or any part thereof for any purpose that is in contravention of any applicable law or regulation or in a manner that will infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties or violate the privacy, publicity or other personal rights of others or in any defamatory, obscene, threatening, abusive or hateful manner.

12.2 The User shall indemnify King’s, its employees and agents, against all claims, liability, losses, damages and expenses (including without limitation, legal fees and costs arising out of or incurred as a result of any claims made against King’s, its employees and agents), resulting from the use by the User of the Website, or any of its contents for whatever purpose, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

13. Miscellaneous

13.1 If any provisions of these terms and conditions are held to be invalid or unenforceable, the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions shall not be affected.

13.2 These terms and conditions constitute the entire agreement between King’s and the User and supersede any other associated communications between the User and King’s.

13.3 Any failure of King’s to exercise or enforce any of its rights under these terms and conditions shall not be deemed to be a waiver of any such rights or operate so as to bar the subsequent exercise or enforcement or any such rights.

13. Jurisdiction

The Website (including these Terms and Conditions of Use) shall be governed by English law. The English courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from the use of the Website and/or any transactions carries out via the Website.
