Pre-Sessional Courses

The Pre-Sessional courses run throughout the summer (June-September) for 12, 8 or 5 weeks and are open to all international students who are planning to study at King’s or other UK universities.

Diploma in English & Academic Studies

The Diploma programme has changed to the International Foundation Programme and International Pre-Masters Programme. Please click on the course links for more information.

International Foundation Programme

The International Foundation Programme is an intensive one year foundation programme for students who are aiming to study undergraduate degree programmes at King’s and other top UK universities. This programme is aimed at high achieving students who have completed their secondary school education but who do not yet qualify for direct entry into undergraduate degree programmes. This programme combines study in designated academic subjects with academic English and study skills.

International Pre-Masters Programme

The International Pre-Masters Programme is an intensive pre-masters programme for students who are aiming to study postgraduate degree programmes at King’s and other top UK universities. Students can enter this programme in either September or January, depending on their qualifications and academic profile. This programme combines study in designated academic subjects with academic English and study skills.

Graduate Diploma in War Studies & Academic English

This pre-masters programme is an intensive one year programme run jointly with the War Studies department. It is aimed at high quality international students who wish to study a range of MA programmes offered by the department. This programme starts in September 2008.

In-sessional & Study Skills support for KCL students

The In-Sessional & Study Skills courses run throughout the academic year and focus on the language and study skills required to make the most of studying at King’s. Courses are offered for both native and non-native speakers but are only open to current King’s students. King’s staff are also welcome to attend any of these sessions.

Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) Courses

The CPE courses run throughout the year and focus on advanced lexis and syntax, idiomatic language and formal/informal writing styles. They are aimed at students who wish to take the CPE exam and at those students who want to extend their knowledge of English beyond the demands of their academic specialisation.

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) Courses

The CAE courses help students to use English in a range of practical situations and be able to follow university courses taught in English. They are aimed at students who wish to take the CAE exam and those who want to develop their ability to participate in discussions and be able to understand and produce accurate texts.

Business English Courses

The Business English courses run throughout the year and are designed for people who speak English to at least intermediate level and who wish to improve their English for Business use. They are suitable for students who are already working in the UK and who want to develop their knowledge of business English.

Tailor-made Courses

The ELC runs a range of tailor-made courses for institutions and companies that focus on areas such as academic English, study skills, communication skills, cultural awareness and English for specific purposes.
